On Your Own in Denali

Iditarod Experience
As you blaze through the great frontier of Alaska, cool your tracks at Happy Trails Kennels owned by award-winning dog musher, Martin Buser. A resident puppy and Iditarod veteran greet you on board the coach. Adults watch an exciting sledding demonstration as Junior Adventurers join the Adventure Guides to meet the season’s litter of eager puppies. After lunch, continue your guided visit to the kennel. Begich, Boggs Visitor Center and Guided Hike to Byron Glacier
Come to the informative Visitor Center to see the striking ice formations of Portage Glacier from across Portage Lake. You might catch a glimpse of “ice calving,” a spectacular event where the ice breaks away from the glacier into the water. Day Two: Cusco / Sacred Valley
Fly to Cusco
After a one-hour flight, travel to Cusco (elevation 11,200 ft. above sea level) to begin your journey to the Sacred Valley (elevation 8000 – 9200 ft. above sea level). After a short flight, a motor coach takes you to the Center for Traditional Textiles (12,500 ft. above sea level) for a delicious lunch of traditional Peruvian foods.

Moray
Start the day in the ruins of Moray (elevation 11,106 ft above sea level) and learn about its unique circular terraces and the history of agriculture in the region. You have the option of hiking down into the ruin by taking the ancient Incan path, experiencing its history on its steep and uneven stairs.

Salt Pans of Maras
Tour the fascinating salt pan terraces where local families have been mining salt for over 500 years. If you choose, you can view more of the salt pans by hiking with an Adventure Guide downhill on a dirt trail into the Sacred Valley.

After a ride on the motor coach back to Sol y Luna Hotel for a private picnic lunch in the delightful gardens.

Walking Tour of Cusco
Upon arriving at your hotel, explore historic Cusco (elevation 11,200 ft. above sea level) with a local expert. Farewell Lunch

Pay attention, though, because the mansion is rumored to be haunted! Cap off your exciting week with a splendid meal and musical entertainment.

Afternoon in Lima
Following lunch, you may relax at the Casa Andina Private Collection Hotel located in the trendy Lima neighborhood of Miraflores. Your Adventure Guides will be happy to make arrangements for you should you choose to independently explore the sites of this colonial capital.

Since flight schedules to the United States vary greatly, Adventures by Disney includes this final night’s accommodation as a convenience should your flight leave the following morning. For Guests departing on Day 9, breakfast at the hotel is included. Please note, however, that there are no other activities or meals following lunch today. Make your way over the pitch lava fields to the deep blue saltwater lagoon, where you can find cave inscriptions with the names of pirate and whaling vessels from the 1800s!

Journey to Floreana Island and Post Office Bay
Known as the “Bay of Mail,” Floreana Island was the first to be inhabited and is home to a barrel of mail that sits on the beach. Whalers began the tradition of placing letters in the barrel. If you found one that went to someone in your home town, you delivered it yourself. In exchange, you could leave a letter or postcard of your own to be delivered. Choose your itinerary for the afternoon! Bring your binoculars to Punta Cormorant, where sting rays and green sea turtles dart and dive in the water beyond the green beach. One of the largest populations of pink flamingos in the archipelago brightens the cove, necks bending gracefully as they scour the floor for food. Discover the Devil’s Crown with its sunken crater that creates some of the best snorkeling in the islands! Rainbow schools of fish cruise through the currents. Swim down to the center of the crater to see hammerheads and spotted eagle rays as they meander past. Or spend some time at Champion, where the walls are covered with black coral bushes and yellow cup corals. Look carefully for Pacific sea horses, green turtles and surgeonfish!

Day Eight: Santa Cruz Island
Santa Cruz Island
Roam this island with a private guide and explore inside the rocky lava tubes left by the liquid magma of the volcanoes. Trek out to Los Gemelos (The Twins), where the lush forest takes a breathtaking plunge into dual craters. Keep an eye out for the vermillion flycatcher and various species of Darwin’s finches as they flit from branch to branch. Meanwhile the giant Galapagos tortoises show you the leisurely life as they ramble across the land. Follow their lead as you discover the powerful sights and sounds of Darwin’s paradise.

Shopping Time On Your Own
Indulge in a bit of souvenir seeking at the island shops in the town of Puerto Ayora before saying goodbye to the Galapagos and boarding the plane back to Quito.

Journey Back to Quito
Transfer to Baltra airport and fly back to Quito. Enjoy lunch on the plane. After you land, your Adventure Guides once again check you into the JW Marriott Hotel for the evening.

Begin lunch with a hands-on, biscuit-baking class as you whip up the golden brown bizcochos that Ecuadorians adore for dessert. Climb into the dinghy for a short ride to the ship. Then ascend the staircase to board this elegant vessel that’s the best in both comfort and communication with scientists. The ship is 293 feet long and carries a total of 100 passengers, including several bilingual naturalist guides. Share your shipboard experiences with people from all walks of life as you sail into adventure!

Pelicans and penguins crowd the shores, along with barking sea lions and swallow-tailed gulls.
